Treating and training of the overhead athlete requires a detailed understanding of both form and function. The overhead athlete is capable of accelerating his or her upper extremity to speeds that routinely exceed 7000 degrees/second.  Although much discussion of the overhead athlete focuses on the shoulder and elbow, this course will go into the entire kinetic chain from the ground up.

This course will examine common areas of dysfunction in the overhead athlete in the context of sport specific movements in baseball pitching, tennis serving, football throwing, volleyball serving/spiking and even lacrosse and swimming movements.

Drs. Mark Kovacs and Shawn Caldwell are two industry leaders who will be co-teaching this course and will incorporate a combination of assessments in the lab, clinic and gym, along with manual techniques and appropriate treatment progressions. Clarification and reinforcement of course objectives will be provided through lecture/discussion, visual aids (pictures/video), case examples, demonstrations, lab work and hands on learn by doing sessions.
